24-year-old woman dies after wrong-way, head-on collision on GA-400 in Buckhead

The crash happened early Sunday morning.

ATLANTA — A 24-year-old woman died after a wrong-way, head-on collision on GA-400 in Buckhead early Sunday morning, the Atlanta Police Department said.

According to APD, the woman was driving a Kia Sorrento that collided with a Toyota Rav4 being driven by a 52-year-old man. A police statement on the incident did not say which of the drivers was suspected of going in the wrong direction.

The 52-year-old man was taken the hospital. He was described as not alert or conscious on scene, but he was breathing.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes of GA-400. It occurred near the Lenox area, a little before Peachtree Road.

The ramps from I-85 North and South to GA-400 North were closed during the incident. Many cars in the backup on GA-400 North turned around and headed the wrong way back to the entrance from Sidney Marcus Blvd., using it as an exit.
