SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A gas main break is prompting road closures at a busy intersection in Sandy Springs on Thursday afternoon and evening.
Authorities said the gas main break is near Mount Vernon Road and Glenridge Drive, down the road from The Mount Vernon School. Atlanta Gas Light officials said that Mount Vernon Road is closed as crews are on site and repairs are underway.
A spokesperson with Atlanta Gas Light said that a contractor with a telecommunications company drilled a hole into the six-inch line at the intersection.
According to a social media post from the City of Sandy Springs, barricades are set up at the intersection and near Cotswold Lane. Officials added that a detour has also been set up from Barfield Road to Abernathy Road to Glenridge Drive.
Drivers are being asked to seek alternative routes.
