1 seriously injured, 1 arrested after 16-year-old crashes into several cars after chase on GA 400: FCSO

The pursuit later continued onto the shoulder of 400 southbound where the driver lost control, hitting multiple cars.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A stretch of Georgia 400 south was shut down in Forsyth County on Thursday afternoon after a chase involving a 16-year-old driver led to multiple wrecks, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said. A driver in another car involved in the crash is now seriously injured, while a teen is now behind bars.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said it all started after a driver pulled over a silver Dodge Durango for a traffic violation around 3:30 p.m. When the deputy walked up to the car, the teen sped off.

After a chase ensued, other deputies arrived on Georgia 400 south to shut down the exit ramps and deployed stop sticks to deflate the vehicle's tires, the sheriff's office said.

The driver kept speeding after running through the spike strip. The pursuit later continued onto the shoulder of 400 southbound where the driver lost control, hitting multiple cars. Three drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The teen driver from Gainesville, who led deputies on the chase, has now been charged with multiple charges, including reckless driving, felony fleeing and attempting to elude, speeding, theft by receiving a stolen firearm, and several other drug-related charges, according to the sheriff's office. More charges are expected following an investigation.

The sheriff's office said the interstate was shut down between exits 14 and 15.
