DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Part of a Georgia bridge is closing for a week to be rehabilitated next month.
According to a Sunday Facebook post from the City of Douglasville, there will be a temporary bridge closure at Riverside Parkway over Sweetwater Creek in early October.
The city says the bridge closure is part of a rehabilitation project in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Back in August, the U.S. Senate passed a $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill that includes $550 billion in new spending over the next five years. That bill includes $110 billion in new funding for roads, bridges and other projects, according to the White House. President Joe Biden previously tweeted that 45,000 bridges in the U.S. are in poor condition.
The area of Riverside Parkway over Sweetwater Creek is expected to be closed for a full seven days, from Monday, Oct. 4 to Monday, Oct. 11.
The city says there will be a detour for motorists to navigate the area while crews work on the bridge. Officials have not yet announced where that detour would reroute drivers.
