The Georgia Department of Transportation says a huge "Mega Load" truck is headed from the Port of Savannah to the Alabama state line overnight Tuesday and overnight Wednesday.
The slow-moving, heavy truck will move through parts of metro Atlanta and may cause some delays along its route.
The giant truck has 19 axles, is 13' 2" inches wide, 14 feet tall and 187 feet long. The truck and its load, together weigh, about 338,000 pounds.
The Mega Load vehicle will be accompanied by Georgia State Patrol officers with marked cars and flashing lights. Motorists who come upon the truck are urged by GDOT to be alert and exercise caution while passing it.
The giant truck will leave the Savannah Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. before heading up Interstate 16 by about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday.
It is expected to pass through the Macon area between 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, arriving at the Forsyth Scales on Interstate 75 shortly before 2 a.m.
The Mega Load vehicle is expected to remain at the Forsyth Scales through the day on Wednesday before departing and heading toward Atlanta Wednesday night at about 9 p.m.
It is expected to take I-75 northbound and get to the I-675 exit at about 10:15 p.m.
The Mega Load will move onto I-285 westbound and I-85 southbound in metro Atlanta.
Heading back southward from metro Atlanta, the giant truck will take the following route with these anticipated arrival times:
- Taking Georgia 154 at around 11:20 p.m.
- Taking Georgia 34 at around 11:30 p.m.
- Turning onto I-85 southbound again at around 11:40 p.m.
- Using Georgia 109 exit ramps at 12:25 a.m.
- Using US 27 exit ramps at 12:30 a.m.
- Arriving at Alabama State Line at 1:05 a.m.
