WOODSTOCK, Ga. — Parts of northbound Interstate 575 are shut down Wednesday night for what law enforcement is calling a hazmat situation.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said northbound lanes along the interstate are shut down between exit 11 by Sixes Road and exit 16 to Hickory Flat Highway. The sheriff's office cited the closure was because of a hazmat situation at Pilgrims Pride on Univeter Road.
Authorities also said Univeter Road from Highway 5 to Chattin Drive was also blocked off.
"No homes or business other than Pilgrims Pride are being evacuated at this time," CCSO said.
Woodstock Police also posted about the closure, citing "a possible ammonia leak."
Authorities are asking drivers to avoid the area as hazmat teams investigate.
