Road closed after debris from damaged railroad bridge causes major accident on Highway 42 in Clayton County: police

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Highway 42 is now shut down after debris from a damaged overhead railroad bridge caused a significant accident on Wednesday, according to Clayton County Police. 

The department posted about the incident on Facebook to warn the public. It happened on Highway 42 at Old Toney Road and past Anvil Block Road.

Police added that the bridge is "extensively damaged," causing concrete debris to fall onto the highway. It's unclear how the bridge was damaged. 

Police are asking people to stay clear of the area, and the Georgia Department of Transportation is asking drivers to take alternate routes. 

Clayton County Police have informed us that no injuries are reported due to the debris falling.
