Police: 18-year-old ejected, killed in crash that shut down I-75 for hours

Investigators believe a mechanical issue may have contributed to this crash.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — An 18-year-old died after being ejected from a car in a crash over the weekend, according to Cobb County Police. Two other people, including another teen, were taken to the hospital.

Cobb County Police said they responded to a crash on I-75 South, just south of Delk Road, on Sunday around 8:30 p.m. The deadly wreck had the interstate blocked for hours.

Two 18-year-olds were inside a Toyota Camry that was stopped in the fourth lane from the left on the interstate. Police said a semitruck pulling a 53-foot trailer was headed down the highway in that same lane. The preliminary investigation determined the tractor trailer crashed into the back of the Camry, pushing the car across two lanes.

The two teens in the Camry were ejected, according to police. Officers said the driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries while the passenger died at the scene.

The 56-year-old truck driver was taken to the hospital after complaining of minor injuries, Cobb Police said.

Investigators believe a mechanical issue may have contributed to this crash. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 770-499-3987.
