COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Four people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving 10 vehicles on I-75 South Tuesday, according to Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services.
Officials said troopers and officers responded to the multi-vehicle crash on I-75 at I-285 near Smyrna. 11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene, where a tractor-trailer was seen overturned.
The crash caused a significant disruption to traffic at Windy Hill Road, with backups as far back as the Canton Road Connector.
All lanes were closed due to the wreck, though it appeared for a time that at least some cars were passing through on the right-hand shoulder. In total, the interstate was shut down for approximately three hours. GDOT511 shows the lanes reopened around 5:20 p.m.
In an update, officials said the crash involved three commercial vehicles and seven passenger vehicles. It was determined that one of the drivers involved in the crash changed lanes improperly, which ultimately caused the accident, the Georgia Department of Public Safety said.
Officials said the four people who were hurt were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. One person, who was cut out of a vehicle, is critically hurt but is now stable, officials said. The three other people are also stable in the hospital, according to Cobb County Fire.
