TRAFFIC | Lanes reopen on I-75 South in Marietta after major 5-vehicle wreck

A tractor trailer appeared to be involved.

MARIETTA, Ga. — UPDATE: Three left lanes have reopened on I-75, with two right lanes still blocked.

Original story below

A major wreck early Wednesday morning has all lanes closed on I-75 South in Marietta.

It happened at North Marietta Parkway, and traffic was being diverted off the exit there. Around 8 a.m., traffic was backed up as far as Cherokee Street in the Kennesaw area.

  • How to get around it: The best alternate is Cobb Parkway/Hwy. 41, though traffic cameras showed heavy congestion pouring into that roadway as well. An alternate to Cobb Parkway would potentially be Old 41 Hwy. to Church Street on the way into Downtown Marietta, then take Roswell Street to get back to I-75.

11Alive Sky Tracker flew over the scene and the wreck appears to have involved a tractor trailer. Marietta Police said five vehicles were involved.

Multiple first responder vehicles were on scene, including a fire truck, as traffic was being held.

Marietta Police said there were injuries in the wreck that were not considered life-threatening.

"MPD officers are working to clear the roadway. Wreckers are en route now," MPD said in an emailed statement at 7:48 a.m.

A GDOT notification said:

There is a crash on I-75 Southbound at N Marietta Parkway in Cobb County with all lanes blocked.  Emergency personnel are on scene.  Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.  There is no estimated time of clearance at this time.
