TRAFFIC | Lanes reopen on I-85 South before Midtown Atlanta after major wreck

All lanes had been closed for a period of time.

ATLANTA — A wreck on I-85 South just before it meets I-75 in Midtown Atlanta had all lanes closed around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

It was not initially clear if there were serious injuries in the wreck or how long the full closure would last.

Traffic cameras showed multiple first responder vehicles on the scene.

The wreck occurred on I-85 South just before Peachtree Street. Traffic maps showed delays on I-85 South forming as far back as Cheshire Bridge Road.

The backup was also seriously impacting GA-400 southbound.

UPDATE (7 a.m.): All lanes remain closed. Backup on I-85 now back past North Druid Hills Road.

UPDATE (7:20 a.m.): Lanes open, traffic moving back slowly through this area now.

Ways to get around it

  • Coming down along I-85: Use Buford Highway to make your way into Lindbergh and then Midtown.
  • Coming down along GA-400: Consider taking Piedmont Road through Buckhead and toward Midtown.
