FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A large wreck in south Fulton County has I-85 disrupted in both directions early Friday morning.
It happened near Fairburn Industrial Boulevard. The Georgia Department of Transportation indicated there were stoppages in both the northbound and southbound lanes.
It was not initially clear how many vehicles might have been involved or why there were lanes blocked in both directions. There was no immediate word on any serious injuries in the incident.
There were southbound delays back past Jonesboro Road and northbound delays approaching Johnson Road.
UDPATE
9:00 am | Traffic is still blocked from this wreck, with GDOT indicating all northbound lanes are closed. Traffic appears to be diverting off I-85 North at Fairburn Industrial Road.
GDOT also indicates two southbound lanes are blocked, though that appeared to clear around 9:05 a.m.
The estimated clear time for this situation is currently 10 a.m.
Alternate routes
- If traveling south: You can either exit at Flat Shoals Road and use that to head to Roosevelt Hwy./US-29 through the middle of Fairburn, getting back on at Fairburn Industrial Blvd. or exit to Jonesboro Road, then go over to take Oakley Industrial Blvd. down to Fairburn Industrial.
- If traveling north: Consider exiting all the way back at Collinsworth Road, take it to Roosevelt Hwy./US-29 near Palmetto and go north to Hwy. 138 then get on at Jonesboro Road. You can also get off at Sharpsburg McCollum Road even farther back to get to US-29. Other way to go would be to take Collinsworth Road (which will turn into Palmetto Road) to Senoia Road then Joel Cowan Parkway/GA-74 and use that to go north up to Oakley Industrial Blvd., then use that to get to Jonesboro Road.
