High-speed crash on Cobb Parkway injures Marietta officers, driver

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Cobb Parkway North and Roswell Street intersection.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Two Marietta Police Department officers were sent to the hospital along with another man after a crash Friday night.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Cobb Parkway North and Roswell Street intersection. Police said a Ford Mustang speeding southbound on Cobb Parkway slammed into the back of a nearly stopped Marietta police patrol vehicle. The impact sent the Mustang spinning out of control and into a Toyota Prius.

The Mustang’s driver, who is 60 years old, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, and both officers in the patrol car had to be extricated due to the damage.

All three were rushed to Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. Police said the officers have since been released, but the driver of the Mustang remains hospitalized but is expected to live.

No other information was provided about the driver of the Prius besides him being 60 years old. The investigation is still ongoing, and charges are expected. If you have any information, you’re urged to contact Investigator J. Henderson at 770-794-5384.
