84-year-old man injured in crash by car passing into oncoming traffic out of hospital

Police said Max Lorenz's family told them he is expected to make a full recovery.

MARIETTA, Ga. — An elderly man seriously hurt in a crash a month ago in Marietta is finally out of the hospital. A warrant has also been issued the person who police said is responsible for the crash.

The crash that left 84-year-old Max Lorenz injured happened on the morning of Aug. 23 on Whitlock Avenue near the intersection of Dallas Circle.

Marietta Police said Lorenz was headed east in his Toyota Avalon on Whitlock when three vehicles that police said were a part of motor club, were headed west. The group was headed to a club meet.

The club members told officers they were separated by traffic lights and were passing vehicles attempting rejoin their group. Witnesses saw the group passing vehicles in a no-passing zone, police said.

Officers said one of the drivers, Lamar Barker, who was in a Dodge Charger, crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into Lorenz's vehicle. The Charger spun and also hit a Chevy Malibu - one of the vehicles also part of the motor club.

Authorities have secured a warrant for Barker's arrest on the charges of speeding, passing in no passing zone, reckless driving and racing.
