SMYRNA, Ga. — People will need to slow down in Smyrna.
The city is keeping drivers in check with new red light cameras. They will be installed at two busy intersections in the city.
The first will be at the intersection of SR 280/South Cobb Drive and Cumberland Parkway/East-West Connector. The second one will be at the intersection of Spring Road and Cumberland Boulevard.
Such cameras will take photos of the license plates of vehicles that don't stop at a red traffic light. The photo enforcement measure will be funded by violators, city leaders said.
Leaders approved the camera installations early this week during the City of Smyrna Council meeting, saying the cameras will hopefully curb traffic incidents and save lives.
Typically, a maximum violation of a red light ticket is a $70 fee. Drivers who run a red light can get three points on their license.
