ATLANTA — A serious crash involving a wrong-way driver on I-20 Eastbound near H.E. Holmes left multiple people severely injured early Wednesday morning, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Authorities said the incident happened around 3 a.m. when a driver was reported traveling against traffic on I-20 EB. The wrong-way vehicle then crashed head-on into another car, causing multiple collisions along the expressway. Several people were taken to the hospital following the crash. However, the exact number of injured individuals and their conditions have not been confirmed as this is still an active investigation.
APD officers, HERO units and Atlanta Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene to shut down the expressway and aid to those hurt in the crash.
They worked to clear the scene, allowing all lanes of I-20 EB to reopen a few hours later, around 6 a.m. Police have not released any additional details about those involved, and it is unclear if charges will be filed.
