ATLANTA — Due to an overnight semi-truck fire, traffic is at a standstill on Interstate 75 north in Cobb County. Crews are currently offloading the contents of the tractor-trailer, causing a major disruption for morning commuters.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews arrived around 11:18 p.m. and estimated that the road could remain closed until at least 7 a.m., but that time is tentative and subject to change.
Crews had closed all lanes on I-75 north before Wade Green Road, diverting traffic off at Chastain Road, but have now opened one of the left lanes to alleviate traffic.
11Alive's Traffic Expert Crash Clark said drivers should use Highway 41 (Cobb Parkway) as an alternate route into Kennesaw and Acworth. Another option is to take I-575 north to Highway 92 and head west back toward I-75.
Traffic delays stretch back towards Marietta, with bumper-to-bumper conditions shown on GDOT cameras.
