Two killed, third airlifted after accident in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -- Two people were killed in a head-on collision on a Forsyth County road Monday.

The crash happened at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Castleberry Road near Fowler Park just after 2 p.m.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a sanitation truck attempted to turn left onto Atlanta Highway but tipped on its side and slide into the northbound roadway where it was struck by a dump truck.

The driver of the sanitation truck, 38-year-old Rodrick Thompson of Cumming, Ga., and a passenger, 21-year-old Ta'shaun Thompson, also of Cumming, Ga., were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the dump truck, a 59-year-old man, was flown to the hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
