Lanes reopen on I-20 west in Atlanta after pedestrian struck, killed

This happened just before 6:20 a.m.

ATLANTA — Traffic was impacted Wednesday morning when after a man was struck and killed near the westbound lanes of I-20 at Windsor Street.

Officers were called just before 6:20 a.m. When they arrived on scene, they found the man dead.

Investigators with Atlanta Police later determined that the driver saw a man dressed in all black trying to cross the expressway. Police said the driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting the man, but ended up fatally striking him. 

The driver stayed on the scene after the accident happened, according to officials. Lanes were blocked for a few hours. Traffic was diverted off at Capitol Avenue for a few hours.

The lanes have since reopened. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim at this time.

Police said the investigation is still active.
