ATLANTA — Atlanta Police confiscated more than 170 pounds of marijuana at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport from suitcases that were unloaded from a Seattle, Washington flight.
Police said four people were taken into custody.
The discovery was made on May 26 by an Atlanta Police Department Airport Drug Interdiction Unit K-9 when five suitcases were on their way to baggage claim.
APD said they detained four people who retrieved the bags; they also noticed that two of them had additional suitcases with them.
Ultimately, officers recovered seven suitcases and a total of 174 pounds of marijuana. Police said its street value is around $700,000.

Police said the suspects all told them someone else packed the bag and they were picking it up for a different person.
"Our advice is never travel with a bag that is not yours or one that you do not know the contents of and think twice before agreeing to retrieve someone else’s bag from an airport baggage claim," Atlanta Police said in a statement.
The four people were charged with trafficking marijuana and taken to the Clayton County Jail.
