ATLANTA — Phase one of the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Concourse D Widening Project is done, officials say.
The Department of Aviation constructed approximately 21,000 square feet of additional boarding-level space in Concord D. The sections can now accommodate the newest aircraft designs, such as the Boeing 737 Max and Airbus 321 Neo.
"The Concourse D Widening Project is one of the most important projects to date," Atlanta Airport Senior Deputy General Manager of Infrastructure Frank Rucker said. "We thank our partners for their commitment in helping us reach this target."
Officials said each of the six new gates can now handle up to 190 passengers per flight. Delta Air Lines was given the gates, and the first flights are scheduled for the afternoon of Sep. 5.
Around 200 people worked on the site daily, officials said. Phase two is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
