Here's why you might have trouble booking an Airbnb Memorial Day Weekend

Airbnb's anti-party system is in full-effect, the company said.

ATLANTA — Airbnb is dissuading party planners from booking rental properties on its platform again this Memorial Day Weekend - including homes in Atlanta.

Last-minute vacation planners may notice restrictions on one-night and two-night bookings. These restrictions on certain attempts to book entire homes will happen when a reservation is identified as a potentially higher-risk booking.

Those who are prevented from booking will have the option to reserve a private or hotel room on Airbnb instead, where the host is more likely to be on site, according to the company.

As of Tuesday, May 21, Airbnb showed that more than 1,000 options still available in the Atlanta area. A majority of these stays were rooms or condos with restrictions on booking homes during the holiday weekend or several listed as unavailable.

These efforts are part of the company's global ban on disruptive parties, according to the company. Since the policy started in 2020, Airbnb reports it's seen around a 50% decrease in party report rates.

Airbnb has stepped up its screening efforts as well as it works to build trust with hosts and guests. It launched its global reservation screening technology last May. It leverages machine learning to try to pinpoint what the company deems "higher-risk bookings." In a year since its launch, more than 860,000 guests have been blocked to redirected from attempting to book on Airbnb.

The company has also established a 24-hour safety line for hosts and guests, provides a free noise sensor for hosts, and now has a specialized response team in the event a major issue involving law enforcement involves an Airbnb listing or stay. In April, it recently revised its policy on indoor security cameras as well.

A similar strategy will be put into effect for the Fourth of July weekend.
