ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport issued an alert warning passengers to expect long wait times at security for both Sunday and Monday.
The airport says that a combination of high passenger volume, potential weather impacts following a stormy weekend in Atlanta, and staffing impacts will likely increase wait times at security checkpoints for the next two days.
"Please arrive at least 2.5 hours prior to your scheduled departure time, and 3 hours early if you require special assistance," the airport tweeted.
It comes as the the airline industry at large has dealt with a rash of canceled flights over the holidays due to the Omicron COVID surge leaving them with staffing shortages.
That, coupled with people who may be traveling through the Atlanta Airport or leaving town following the New Year's Eve weekend, as well as the weather that had much of the region under a tornado watch overnight, could leave passengers waiting in long lines in Atlanta.
