ATLANTA — The world's busiest airport has done it again.
For the second year in a row, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was voted North America's Best Airport earning a Business Traveler Award. These awards honor the best airlines, airports, hotels and travel services, according to a news release, and contenders are nominated by a group of aviation, hospitality and travel experts. Readers then vote for their favorite.
Atlanta's airport won readers' hearts - the city's mayor said investments into the facility's infrastructure likely made an impression on travelers.
“From opening a new state-of-the-art fire station to adding parking decks to modernizing our Concourses, we are dedicated to ensuring this economic engine for the Southeast region of the country stands head and shoulders above the rest," Mayor Andre Dickens said in a news release.
Often referred to as "a gateway to the world" airport officials said they are committed to enhancing passenger experience.
Currently, Atlanta's major airport is working to improve ADA accessibility through ATLNext, its multibillion dollar capital improvement project. A renewed focus on infrastructure brought domestic terminal interior enhancements, parking deck renewal and plans to extend the Plane Train tunnel.
