Delta flights from Atlanta to Israel suspended; only US flights will leave from New York starting Nov. 1

Delta also announced they extended their flight waiver for all customers currently booked to Israel and are also offering refunds.

ATLANTA — Delta flights leaving from Atlanta to Tel Aviv, Israel, have now been suspended indefinitely and beginning Nov. 1, the only flights to the war-torn country will leave from New York City, the airline announced Wednesday.

All flights to Tel Aviv were officially canceled through Oct. 31 on Monday, but those wanting to fly there can now do so out of John F. Kennedy International Airport when the month is over.

Delta Air Lines also announced they extended their flight waiver for all customers currently booked to or from Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport so they can rebook their travel on any available flight until Sept. 6, 2024.

Customers who are eligible for the waiver can also process their own refunds for their flight if they wish to do so by going to the Fly Delta app, delta.com, or by calling Delta Reservations for refund support.

It comes after President Joe Biden condemned the weekend attack by Hamas militants on Israel as the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, killing 2,200 people on both sides -- including the number of U.S. citizens killed in the fighting ticking up to 22.

"Delta people are keeping those impacted top of mind as we continuously monitor the rapidly evolving security environment and assess our operations based on security guidance and intelligence reports, including the most recent U.S. Department of State travel advisory," the airline said about its ongoing assessments. "We will continue making schedule adjustments, including additional cancelations on a rolling basis, as needed for the safety of our customers and crew while remaining committed to assisting those needing travel."

In addition to flights at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport being discontinued for the time being, flights have also been suspended between Tel Aviv and Boston Logan International Airport.
