Delta in-flight alcohol prices going up - but food menu expanding for some

Pre-select meals and chef-inspired and featured dishes will round out the Delta One traveler menu.

Delta flyers will be dishing out a little more money for alcoholic drinks on the airline's flights - but business flyers in more than 200 markets worldwide will have some pretty good food to console themselves.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines began charging one dollar more for all alcoholic drinks, except for sparkling, wine on Dec. 1.

New prices include:

  • Featured Cocktail: $9
  • Sparkling Wine: $9
  • Domestic Beer: $8
  • Craft/Import Beer: $9
  • Liquor: $9
  • Wine: $9

Delta Comfort Plus customers will still receive complimentary beer, wine and cocktails and cabins will get similar treatment on international flights.

The move falls in line with moves by other airlines including Southwest and American - but at the same time Delta Air Lines is hiking the price, it's also offering more food choices through its expanded experiment of pre-select meals which are available to Delta One customers.

The Chronicle reports that beginning Thursday, pre-select meals will be available in 200 markets in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and South America.

The pre-select meal program originally launched in March at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and John F. Kennedy to Europe. So frequent business fliers in Atlanta may already be familiar with it.

It has been available to Delta One business-class business flyers on select routes. The Chronicle reports that the company is also offering new food on its menus to include featured dishes - some created by partner chefs like Atlanta's Linton Hopkins.

Delta's pre-select meal option will soon be available on all Delta One routes, expanding the food option to more business customers traveling between the U.S. and Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and South America. Beginning Dec. 6, pre-select meals will be available in more than 200 markets around the world, marking a relatively speedy expansion since its initial launch in March.
