Delta says storm delays affecting Atlanta flights on Saturday

The carrier says the delays are due to severe storms throughout their system over the past several days.

ATLANTA — Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines released a statement late Saturday morning that said the carrier has been experiencing delays due to severe weather across its system over the past few days.

“Flights out of Atlanta are experiencing delays this morning due to severe thunderstorms throughout the system over the past several days. Our teams are working hard to recover the operation and we apologize to our customers for the delay," said the carrier in its statement.

Strong thunderstorms in Atlanta forced the Federal Aviation Administration to bring all air traffic to a halt Friday afternoon. The ground stop was in place for about an hour, beginning at about 3:30 p.m.

Severe weather has plagued airports in the upper portions of the Midwest over the past few days, affecting major air hubs including Chicago and Detroit.
