Hartsfield-Jackson airport preps for spring break travelers | What to know

Here are how many travelers to expect and the busiest times to travel at the airport.

ATLANTA — In preparing for a busy spring travel season, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has made some changes to adjust to an increased number of travelers. So, if you're planning a trip this spring break, here's everything you need to know – from how many travelers to expect to a parking change at the world's busiest airport.

Busiest days

Hartsfield-Jackson officials said it's anticipating more than 4.4 million passengers either traveling to, from, or through its airport beginning Sunday, March 26 until Sunday, April 9. Traditionally, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays are considered to be the busiest days for travelers, according to a release from the airport.

It's also projecting Friday, March 31, to be the busiest day for spring break travel with more than 330,000 passengers expected in Atlanta.

Timing

Passengers should arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson at least two and a half hours ahead of their scheduled departure time for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.

It's important to check parking options, security wait times, and open airport concessionaires ahead of time to make sure you're on time for your flight. You can stay up to date online here. Reminders

Airport officials also encourage travelers to thoroughly inspect their luggage and belongings before arriving at the airport to ensure they are not bringing prohibited items through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. Officials want to remind travelers that all firearms and ammunition must be properly packaged and placed in checked bags. To ensure items comply with TSA regulations, visit its site online here.

North Parking Deck changes

Hartsfield-Jackson airport is preparing to enter phase 2 of its parking deck renewal project. All north lower-level lanes will be closed for 72 hours beginning on Monday, March 27 at 10 p.m. through Thursday, March 30 at 10 p.m. During this time, officials said airport shuttles will relocate to the outer curb of the north upper-level roadway. Phase 2 of the project will officially begin Friday, March 31. All north parking deck shoring is scheduled to be completed by Friday, June 2. Officials are encouraging travelers to use Hartsfield-Jackson's west parking deck.
