Travelers brave Hartsfield-Jackson on busiest travel day of the year

Over 330,000 are projected to go through TSA screenings at Hartsfield-Jackson on Sunday.

ATLANTA — It's one of the busiest travel days of the year.

And at the world's busiest airport, 330,000 people were projected to go through TSA lines on Sunday.

Hartsfield Jackson International Airport is living up to its name as the world’s busiest airport, with the lines for TSA extending well past the rotunda.

Travelers flying out of Atlanta needed a few things besides luggage, including patience, optimism and extra time, just to name a few.

“Stick with it. You’ll get there at some point," said Jacob Grigsby. He was headed back to college in Virginia and, like many others, wasn’t completely prepared for the long lines.

Others, like Eva Vaitkevicious, were a bit worried that the two-and-a-half hours she gave herself to catch a flight back to Chicago might not have been the best idea.

“I’m kinda known for running late but I thought I gave myself plenty of time with two and a half hours. Seeing this line, I’m hoping it moves faster. I don’t know. My mom said if you miss your flight, you’re on your own. I’m not coming back here," she said.

Officials asked travelers to arrive early, be aware of new checkpoint screening technology, and. be kind to frontline workers.

Passenger Troy White said he’s relying on his faith to get to his gate.

“Get here earlier than I did. I thought two hours was enough. Apparently not, so we’re going to pray to God and hope that I make my flight on time," said White.

Airport officials have been prepping for this day and have added additional workers to make things smoother for passengers.
