Memorial Day weekend travel forecast | AAA

A whopping 37 million people are expected to be on the roads.

ATLANTA — Planning on hitting the road or taking to the skies this Memorial Day weekend? If so, be sure to pack your patience because AAA is predicting huge travel numbers.

In fact, the company said 2023 could be the busiest Memorial Day weekend at airports since 2005, with nearly 3.5 million Americans set to fly.

That's an 11% increase over the last year.

As for highways, a whopping 37 million people are expected to be on the roads.

In Georgia, 1.3 million are expected to travel 50 miles or more from their home, according to AAA. That's 86,000 more travelers than last year - just in the Peach State.

So, if you are going to drive, note that AAA said the busiest days are expected to be May 25 and 26 - The Thursday and Friday before Memorial Day.

Right now in metro Atlanta, the price for gas is around $3.26 per gallon, which is only slightly lower than last year's $3.97 per gallon.
