Rental car service briefly disrupted at Atlanta airport after incident in electrical room 'resulted in smoke'

The airport said that some rental car companies might be impacted by the event, and shared that customers should expect some delays in rental car service.
On Sunday and Monday, more than 364,000 passengers are expected.

ATLANTA — Travelers needing to rent a car from the Atlanta airport might need a bit more patience this evening after an incident at the airport's rental car center resulted in some disruptions Monday evening.

The airport shared a post on X that a situation in the electrical room on the satellite property "resulted in smoke" just before 4 p.m. That smoke was dissipating as of just before 5 p.m., but the airport wrote that "in an abundance of caution," it was moving customers from the rental car center. The airport did not specify what caused the smoke.

It appeared that service on the SkyTrain, the elevated rail line that carries passengers from the terminals to the rental car center, was temporarily paused around 5:20 p.m., but service has since resumed normal service as of 5:45 p.m.
