JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — For years, many individuals and families have flocked to suburbs to escape the hustle and bustle of large metropolitan cities. Presently, half of all Americans live in some type of suburb for a multitude of reasons such as a slower lifestyle, more space, and more bang for the buck, research from John Hopkins University shows.
Travel magazine Travel + Leisure rounded up the best suburbs in the nation to live in, and one city in Georgia took the top spot on the list. The rankings were based on feedback from expert realtors and livability.
Johns Creek, a suburb nearly 30 miles north of Atlanta, is ranked number one among the top ten suburbs in the US. The city was the only one from Georgia to make the list.
People who live in the area, like Daniel Herrera, tout the suburb's green spaces as a selling point.
"I like the security, the parks, the nature and just the people in general."
Communication Director Bob Mullen told 11Alive the suburb is also very diverse.
"Johns Creek, based on its size, is one of the most ethnically diverse suburban cities in the southeast. We have businesses that are set up to cater to those specific ethnic groups."
According to the city's website, 85,814 people call the city home. 46.2% of the population is non-white, and the Asian community is the city's second-largest.
'The city is considered one of the area's wealthiest communities, with a median household income of more than $130,000 and a median home value of $704,470, according to Zillow.
The ranking also touted the city's low crime rates, schools, and access to multiple outdoor activities, making it a prime place for families.
