ATLANTA — In the wake of frigid temperatures, Atlanta is keeping its warming centers open for a little while longer.
Its three locations will now stay open through Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 9 a.m., city officials said.
Atlanta's shelter for women and children that was originally opened at the Thomasville Recreation Center on Christmas Eve has now been moved due to facility issues, officials said. Families in need of shelter can head to the Grant Park Recreation Center at 537 Park Ave. SE. It will also stay open through Dec. 28 at 9 a.m.
Atlanta's two other warming centers are now currently only available to men. Those who identify can go to Old Adamsville Recreation Center and Central Park.
Transportation will be provided from the Gateway Center. Return rides will also be available once the warming centers have been deactivation with additional buses scheduled to and from shelters as needed, officials said.
The timing of the warming centers may be subject to change based on updated forecasts and needs according to the city's release. To get information about warming centers, please visit the city's website at www.atlantaga.gov.
