ATLANTA — Soak up the sunshine after 8 p.m. while it lasts! This week, sunsets after 8 p.m. will end in Atlanta.

As we move through the month of September, the daylight hours continue to shrink a little each day. That also impacts the sun setting a little earlier.

On Labor Day, the sun will still set a little after 8 p.m. at 8:01, and on Tuesday, it will set at 8 p.m. -- this will be the last sunset at 8 p.m. until April 3, 2025.

On Wednesday, our sunsets will shift to the 7 p.m. hour, with a sunset at 7:58 p.m. This is a normal cycle of daylight hours getting a little shorter after the summer solstice. We will keep these sunsets in the 7 p.m. hour until October 18, which will be our last sunset at 7 p.m. this year.

Our latest sunsets in Atlanta are from the end of June until the beginning of July when the sun sets at 8:52 p.m.

The earliest sunsets in Atlanta are in the winter months as we approach the winter solstice. From the end of November to the beginning of December, the sun sets at 5:29 p.m., but that is during standard time after we have moved our clocks back one hour.
