ATLANTA — After a break from the storms Saturday, there is a better storm chance for Sunday across North Georgia and the Atlanta area. A few of today's storms could be locally strong or severe.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas north and west of Atlanta in a 'marginal' risk of severe weather -- a threat level 1 out of 5. This means that a few storms could become strong to severe, but not every storm will be severe.
The biggest severe player will be some damaging wind gusts. Storms will also bring vivid lightning and locally heavy rain, which could cause some street flooding. Critical timing for Sunday's thunderstorms is after 2 p.m.
We'll start the day with mostly cloudy skies and a stray shower/storm. It will be muggy to start. Cloud cover thins out late morning and there will be more sunshine around the midday hours. Scattered storms will then begin to pop up early to mid afternoon, moving west to east. Some storms will even be possible into early tonight, moving into northwest Georgia from Tennessee.
The trend the next week takes storm coverage down mid to end of the work week. But Monday's rain chance is still on the higher end with scattered to numerous showers and storms developing throughout the afternoon and evening. Starting Wednesday through the end of the work week, there will only be isolated showers and thunderstorms with hot temperatures around 90 each afternoon.
