ATLANTA — Overnight storms brought storms to metro Atlanta, as well as some sleet and snow up in north Georgia as temperatures then fell.
Most pressing for many in and around Atlanta though were the high winds brought on by the stormy weather, which have downed trees and lines and left thousands of customers in the area without power.
Those winds are expected to continue through Saturday, with a wind advisory in place for much of the state until 7 p.m. tonight.
So far power companies are reporting several outages, with the highest concentration of Georgia Power customers without electricity appearing to be south of the city.
Overall Georgia Power reports more than 50,000 customers lost power in metro Atlanta. The company's power outage map indicates more than 4,000 customers are without power in the areas of Edgewood and Little Five Points, and shy of 2,000 in the Greenbriar Mall area of southwest Atlanta.
More than 700 customers are without power around Moreland Avenue south of East Atlanta Village, and nearly 900 more east of there along Flat Shoals Road and I-20 in East Atlanta.
There are also more than 2,000 customers without power in North Decatur around the Emory area, and more than 1,700 east of I-85 in north Atlanta near North Druid Hills.
Further out from the city center, more than 6,000 customers are without power in south Fulton around Riverdale. There are more than 2,000 outages in Gwinnett County, clustered near Suwanee. More than 3,000 lost power south of I-20 near Stonecrest in DeKalb County.
Another roughly 700 are without power north of Cartersville.
So far the company does not have a timetable for when power will be restored in many of these outages.
Additionally, Georgia EMC reports more than 5,700 outages in metro Atlanta, as well as an additional 1,700 in north Georgia and 600 in northeast Georgia.

According to the 11Alive StormTrackers, the ongoing winds today could be as strong as between 20-3 0mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
