ATLANTA — With chilly weather in store for much of metro Atlanta today and rain on the way, what's the chance any of that rain turns to snow?
The answer is: Not that great, but you could see some brief spells of flakes or flake-like mix.
If you're up in far north Georgia, at higher elevations, you could see some solid little bits of snowfall - as much as half an inch in northeast Georgia if you're above 1,500 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
The northwest counties, extending as far down south as Rome, could also see trace accumulations on the ground.
But it's not likely you'll get much more than little spells of a flurry here or there closer inside the Atlanta metro.
According to 11Alive Meteorologist Chesley McNeil, we're basically just in for some cold rain.
The showers could start to show up early this morning, around 7 a.m., coming in from the west. With the colder early morning temperatures, this is probably the likeliest time you could catch a glimpse of a brief stretch of flurries.
You can expect pockets of light rain to continue up until around noon, and then heavier rain in the later afternoon and early evening.
If you're out on the road, be careful with the slick conditions!
According to Chesley, Tuesday will bring back higher temperatures in the 50s by the afternoon, with dry, chilly mornings and warmer, sunny afternoons the rest of the week.
