SAVANNAH -- A tornado touched down in Savannah early Friday morning.
The Chatham Emergency Management Agency, or CEMA, confirms to 11Alive damage to a neighborhood was caused by a tornado that hit around 5:45 a.m.
Officials will not know the level of the tornado until damage assessments are done. CEMA also said they have not heard reports of people witnessing a funnel from the tornado.
Tropical Storm Hermine brought some power outages and caused a few trees to fall but there were no immediate reports of injuries.
By late Friday afternoon, conditions were improving on St. Simons Island. Residents spent much of the day surveying the damage that had been done. Some were hopeful of returning to the beach by Saturday.
