Forecast | Dangerous heat and humidity

A Heat Advisory will be in effect for portions of north Georgia Sunday.

ATLANTA —

Quick Forecast:

Sunday: Hot and humid.  Isolated afternoon showers and storms.  High: 94°.
Sunday Night: Rain clears. Partly cloudy and warm.  Low: 75°.
Monday: Hot and humid. Afternoon pop-up showers and storms.  High: 94°.

Discussion:

Humidity remains high which will keep the daily chance for afternoon pop-up showers and storms in the forecast.  The mugginess today will also push the heat into dangerous territory this afternoon.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect for portions of north Georgia, mainly south and east of the metro, from 11AM to 8PM.

Highs will quickly climb into the low to mid 90s.  With humidity, feels like temperatures in spots under the advisory could be as hot as 105°.

Remember to stay hydrated and take breaks if you're outside in the heat of the afternoon.

Isolated showers and storms will develop this afternoon as temperatures warm.  Rain will not be widespread, but if you have plans to be outdoors the second half of the day, keep an eye on the radar.

Thunder, lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds possible, but severe weather is not expected.

Daily pop-up storms are expected each day into the week.  If you're hoping for rain (which most are), it's the luck of the draw.

Temperatures stay hot on Tuesday and humidity remains high.  A small drop in highs is expected Tuesday as winds shift around to the east.  We'll temporarily stay in the 80s, but no major heat relief any time soon.

There are three systems worth watching in the tropics.  Hurricane Beryl is now a major category 3 hurricane in the western Atlantic. It will be moving into the Caribbean, expected to strengthen to a category 4 hurricane.

Two other areas - one in the NW Caribbean and the other off the coast of Africa - have a chance of development.  None of these tropical systems pose an immediate threat to us in north Georgia.
