ATLANTA —

Quick Forecast:

Monday: Hot and humid. Isolated afternoon pop-up showers and storms.  High: 95°.
Monday night: Partly cloudy and comfortable. Low: 71°.
Tuesday: Partly cloudy, breezy, and not as hot. High: 87°.

Discussion:

Another hot day in store to start off the week.  Morning temperatures are warm, and highs again today will quickly climb into the 90s.

Plenty of sunshine this morning as northerly winds have cleared clouds.  Cloud cover will gradually build in through the afternoon, and a few pop-up showers and storms are possible.

Isolated storms today may be capable of producing heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of our area under the marginal level 1 risk for severe weather, but the overall threat here is very low.

Northerly winds will usher in some (slightly) cooler and drier air.  Especially in far north Georgia, humidity may be a little more bearable tonight and Tuesday.

Temperatures won't be as hot on Tuesday - highs stay in the 80s! It will be short-lived, however.  Heat builds back in through the week, and highs are back in the mid 90s by July 4th.

Daily pop-up storms are expected each day into the week.  If you're hoping for rain (which most are), it's the luck of the draw.

There are three systems we are tracking in the tropics.  Hurricane Beryl is a dangerous Category 4 hurricane as it moves through the Lower Antilles.

We also now have Tropical Storm Chris in the Bay of Campeche, which formed Sunday at 11 p.m. It will soon make landfall in Mexico. There is also another tropical wave in the central Atlantic MDR which has a high chance of development in the next few days.  None of these tropical systems pose an immediate threat to us in north Georgia.
