Frost can form when temperatures are at or just above freezing, up to 36 degrees. A freeze occurs when temperatures drop to or below 32 degrees. A hard freeze happens when the temperature drops to 28 degrees.

Atlanta averages its first frost of the season on Nov. 3 and its first freeze of the season on Nov. 13. This weekend's forecasted lows for Sunday are very average for our normal fall cold progression.

The growing season ends when minimum temperatures reach 28 degrees, or on Nov. 20. After that point, the NWS no longer issues frost and freeze alerts
