The full 'Strawberry Moon' happens Friday, welcoming in summer

With a mostly clear sky, you should be able to catch a glimpse.

The full 'Strawberry' moon welcomes in the summer season. The moon turns full at 9:08 p.m. on Friday, June 21, according to NASA.

June's full moon, which sometimes falls at the end of spring and other times at the start of summer, is nicknamed the 'Strawberry Moon' by the Old Farmer's Almanac. This coincides with the same time of year for strawberry harvests, although here in Georgia, that season is already over.

Across north Georgia, we do expect a mostly clear sky Friday night to see the moon. Moonrise time will be at 9:05 p.m. Friday in the southeast sky. Moonset will be on Saturday morning at 6:37 a.m. The moon will also appear nearly full on Thursday night.

June's full moon is neither a supermoon nor a micromoon. A series of four supermoons are expected from August through November.
