GEORGIA, USA — Summer heat is quickly reaching Georgia! As temperatures rise, residents could see a hike in the cost of their electric bills.
Georgia Power released a list of tips on Friday to help residents manage the impact of the higher temperatures on their electric bills.
Here's how residents can save money on their electric bills, according to Georgia Power:
- The electric company recommends that residents set their thermostats to 78 degrees and use fans to keep their homes cool. Georgia Power added in their release that every degree higher can result in a 3% to 4% decrease in energy use.
- Georgians should always change their air filters once a month to improve airflow. Those with pleated filters should change them every three months, the electric company said.
- Georgia Power recommends residents slow down on washing full loads of laundry and over-drying. It also recommends cleaning the lint trap before every load to increase efficiency.
- The company also recommends using an outdoor grill to reduce temperatures inside the home.
- According to the company, residents should also close their curtains and blinds during peak hours of the day to reduce extra heat.
- Georgia Power also recommends setting the temperature in the fridge to what is recommended by the manufacturer.
- It's a common saying, but unplugging your electronic devices when you are not using them could save you more in your wallet. Georgia Power also recommends using smart power strips and energy-saving settings on devices.
