ATLANTA — Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) is opening its doors to storm evacuees seeking refuge from Hurricane Idalia.
The Speedway, which can host thousands of guests, will provide the area free of charge for dry camping in its Unreserved RV campground.
"Anyone who is looking to get out of the path of Idalia is welcome to stay with us here at AMS. With hundreds of acres of campgrounds and supporting infrastructure, our facility is well equipped to help in times of need," said AMS Executive Vice President and General Manager Brandon Hutchison. "That's why we've made a habit of working hand-in-hand with Henry County Emergency Management for more than a decade to lend a helping hand for situations like this."
A limited amount of camping spaces with water, power and sewer will also be available for evacuees at $35 per night.
The Speedway has been used to accommodate storm evacuees several times.
During Hurricane Irma, the Speedway hosted more than 100 campers, and in 2018, dozens more stayed at the Speedway during Hurricane Florence.
Directions for Storm Evacuees
Storm evacuees arriving at AMS from GA Highway 20 and Lower Woolsey Road should enter the facility at Entrance "H", turn right onto Richard Petty Boulevard, turn left into Entrance "G" and continue to the Unreserved RV Campground. Evacuees arriving via US Highway 19/41 will enter at Entrance "E" and continue to the Unreserved RV Campground.
AMS encourages evacuees seeking full hookup camping to call their ticket office at 770-946-4211 to reserve a space during business hours. At most campgrounds, "Full Hookups" means the RV has sewer, water and electric hookups.
Storm victims should visit the AMS ticket office and gift store building for more on-site assistance.
More on-site assistance can be found by evacuees at the ticket office and gift store building.
