ATLANTA — Floridians are just beginning to understand the scope of destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian, as the storm bears down on the South Carolina coast.
Images from the aftermath show entire communities destroyed by the storm, which slammed into the southwestern coast of Florida as a strong Category 4 storm, one of the strongest hurricanes on record to hit the Sunshine State.
Now, cleanup begins, and people are looking for ways to offer relief to those impacted by the devastating storm.
Groups like the American Red Cross are mobilizing relief for storm victims. 11Alive partnered with the organization for a telethon on Friday, Sept. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. to collect funds for its relief efforts.
Community members helped raise $10,635 in just two hours. 11Alive would like to thank all donors who participated, but there are still opportunities to lend a hand.
Those wanting to donate have multiple ways to help:
- Online at redcross.org/donate
- Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief
Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.
Donations will still be accepted, even after the telethon concludes.
