Georgia EMTs help with medical evacuations in hurricane-ravaged areas

American Medical Response has sent over 700 EMTs to help with patient transports for Hurricanes Helene and Milton

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — American Medical Response (AMR) workers are on the frontlines, providing crucial aid in areas impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Among the 750 deployed EMTs is a veteran named Ed Powers, with nearly 20 years of experience, who has been traveling between Florida and North Carolina since Sept. 24.

The team has been focusing on medical transports, helping patients in regions that have lost access to utilities like water and electricity.

"Where they had lost utilities, water, sewer, electricity, those kinds of things," Powers explained.

Recently, the team evacuated a 250-bed hospital housing critically ill cardiac patients.

"They were on L-beds, ventilators and balloon pumps," Powers said, detailing the intense conditions.

These EMTs will remain on duty until their help is no longer needed.

"It’s good for your soul to know that you’re making a difference and helping people," he added.
