ATLANTA — While evacuees wait as Hurricane Dorian churns off the east coast of Georgia and the Carolinas, Georgia State University is showing those who fled the storm some southern hospitality.
The university in Downtown is offering those displaced by the storm complimentary tickets to this Saturday's football home opener against Furman at 7 p.m., at Georgia State Stadium. The opener comes fresh after the school's team defeated Tennessee in an upset win on the road.
The tickets are available to residents of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina who have been displaced due to mandatory evacuations. Residents who show a valid driver's license from the specific coastal zip codes that are under a mandatory evacuation will be eligible to take advantage of this offer.
Evacuees can get up to four tickets, which can be claimed at the Georgia State Stadium Office windows beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday through kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 7, while supplies last. Children 10 and under are free.
Hurricane Dorian is still a category 2 storm and is expected to continue lashing the Georgia and Carolina coast for the next two days. The storm brought heavy winds and rain to the east coast just days after stalling over the northern Bahamas as a dangerous category 5 hurricane, where caused utter devastation and at least 20 deaths.
