GRIFFIN, Ga. — A resident was extricated from a home after a roof collapsed in Griffin Thursday night. This comes as Helene is expected to continue to impact Georgia during the overnight hours.
Griffin Police said they were called to the 400 block of Hammond Drive around 11 p.m. to respond to tree that caved in on a residence. Neighbors were alerted by a loud noise along with someone calling for help, officers said.
First responders entered the home and helped rescue the resident. She was taken to the hospital, where police said she was in stable condition.

Helene made landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida's northwestern coast as a Category 4 hurricane. Forecasters say the storm is threatening a “catastrophic” storm surge in northwestern parts of Florida as well as damaging winds, rains and flash floods hundreds of miles inland across much of the southeastern U.S.
Helene is also expected to travel north through Georgia overnight, creating widespread impacts. Around 2 a.m., the Helene was downgraded to a Category 1 storm.
