Georgia Power extends grace period for customers impacted by Helene

Here's the latest update on Helene and its aftermath in Georgia.

ATLANTA — Georgia Power is extending its grace period for all customers impacted by Hurricane Helene, the company announced on Monday.

In a text message sent out to customers, Georgia Power noted it has "extended the suspension of disconnections, waiving eligible late fees, and pausing collection activities through December 15."

On Saturday, the company announced that over 95% of customers have had power restored following Helene's devastation.

Georgia Power also offered numbers illustrating the widespread impact of the storm, noting:

  • Over 8,300 power polls needed to be repaired or replaced
  • Over 21,000 spans of wire were damaged, an equivalent of 1,000 miles
  • Over 1,600 transformers were damaged
  • Over 3,200 trees fell on power lines, which needed to be removed

The company posts updated estimated restoration times (ERTs) for communities on its Outage Map.
