ATLANTA — Georgia Power announced on Saturday that over 95% of customers have had power restored following Hurricane Helene's devastation.
In total, over 1.3 million people have had service restored, according to the utility company.
Still, Georgia Power says crews are continuing to work around the clock to restore service to those left affected. The company noted that, in many cases, the damage to the state's infrastructure system was so severe "that teams are essentially rebuilding parts of the grid and not just repairing specific elements."
Georgia Power also offered numbers illustrating the widespread impact of the storm, noting:
- Over 8,300 power polls needed to be repaired or replaced
- Over 21,000 spans of wire were damaged, an equivalent of 1,000 miles
- Over 1,600 transformers were damaged
- Over 3,200 trees fell on power lines, which needed to be removed
The company posts updated estimated restoration times (ERTs) for communities on its Outage Map.
